At the inauguration ceremony of the new transformer , Sonatrel's general manager accompanied by local officials, revealed a massive 96 billion cfa francs investment plan for the Cameroon -Chad electrical interconnection project, aimed at permanently addressing the power shortage problem in the Northern region. The inauguration of this transformer will double the electricity production capacity in Ngaoundere from 20MW to 50MW , significantly improving the quality of life for the population and boosting the region's economic development. The 96 billion cfa francs investment will fund the construction of the Houro Oussoua substation in Ngaoundere 3 district, this strategic 227 kv-high voltage substation will serve as the backbone of the region's power grid , channelling electricity produced by the upcoming Bini à Warak dam and bolstering energy supply.Next , the North-South interconnection project will feature a 225 KV transmission line stretching from Yoko to Houro Oussoua, crossing the Northern and Far Northern region's and ultimately connecting to Chad's power grid .This project seeks to improve electricity transmission infrastructure and alleviate recurring power cutages in Adamawa. As a reminder the Bini à Warak project is slated to start generating electricity by 2027, providing its first megawatts to the grid . Originally planned as a 75MW hydroelectric dam , the project has been upgraded to a 95MW hybrid power plant intergrating both hydroelectric and solar power including a 35MW photovoltaic solar facility.
