In the two most recent operations, the Bank of Central African States scaled back its liquidity offer to bank from 340 billion cfa francs to 300 billion Cfa Francs. This amount seems better aligned with the banks' current requirements, judging from the outcomes of the latest operations . Although the Central Bank has steadily increased its offerings since restarting liquidity injections in June 2024 , banks' actual uptake in the last two operations barely surpassed 270 billion Cfa Francs, failling significantly short of the 400 billion cfa francs demanded by banks between June and September 2024.The sharp increase in banks' liquidity requirements can be traced back to the stringent measures enforced by the Central Bank on lending institutions from late 2021 and May 2024.This period was marked by the implementation of measures in the Cemac region to tighten banks' liquidity with the stated goal of combating inflation by limiting credit availability.More than 10% of inflation in the Cemac zone is driven by monetary factors, according to the Bank of Central African States. As inflationary tensions in the Cemac region's market have subsided since the start of this year , BEAC has relaxed its liquidity constraints on banks . Accordingly ,it restarted its liquidity injection operations in June 2024 , After a hiatus of more than a year.
