This new engagement by the US Government will enable USAID to continue working closely with Affected African countries, as well as global and regional health partners to expand support and reduce the impact related to Mpox outbreak as it continues to evolve.Since 2023 the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)has been experiencing an unprecedented outbreak of Clade I Mpox and according to health statistics the Democratic Republic of Congo is the country most severely impacted by the outbreak of this disease.This outbreak has extended beyond the DRC with several other countries in the region reporting cases in 2024 .The support of the US through USAID include assiastance with surveillance, diagnosis,risk communication , infection prevention and control , case mamagement and vaccination planning to coordination and the donation of 50,000 doses of Jynneos vaccines and resources to support vaccines readiness and delivery to DRC which faces severe impact from this outbreak.This additional assistance of $ 35 million by the US to DRC and other affected countries in the regions add to the already allocated amount that sum up to a total of $ 55 million. According to a communiquer of USAID, the US Government  is more determined to continue to work closely with African Government,The World Health Organisation and Africa CDC to ensure an effective response to the current outbreak , to ensure health and protects the lives of people in the African continent.
