This report by Beac is based on a survey conducted with government authorities, business actors and stakeholders in the domain. This forseen fall in the production of Cameroon's rubber accord to Beac is push by two main factors: the first factor is attributed to poor road infrastructure, making it difficult for producers to transport their goods and the second factor is attributed to the inadequate maintenance of factories affecting production capacities. This expectation of decline in rubber production according to experts ,will negative affect Cameroon's public treasury as it may lead to a drop in tax revenues and other income related . Rubber prices globally have been on the rise since late 2023 with an increase of 25.8% in the first quarter of 2024 . Rubber alongside Cocoa has been a key driver of the rise in agricultural exports prices for Cameroon in particular and CEMAC in general . According to Cameroonian stakeholders in the domain, another factor affecting rubber production in Cameroon can be attributed to the situation at the Cameroon Development Corporation,CDC has struggled to fully exploit its rubber plantation which was not that easy due to the ongoing security nature in the North West and South West Region forcing CDC to halt production and abandoned their plantations.
