According to some stakeholders and traders, this price surge is attributed to the rising costs of inputs (maize) . Nowadays to consume chicken, one needs to have a sum of 4500 francs.However , just a few months ago, 3000 francs were enough to buy a plump chicken . Similarly, the price of a crate of eggs has skyrocketed from 1700 francs to over 2500 francs in our markets .In neighborhoods , an egg now sells for 125 to 150 francs up from 75 francs previously.The drastic cost escalation has resulted in consumers paying through the nose This trend observed in our markets, is attributed to the surge in corn feed prices , which now sells for over 20,000 francs. Moreover , some chicken farmers find it challenging to procure this feed at such high costs .The poultry industry, including farmers, sellers , and consumers are crying out for help , urging the government to find solutions to alleviate this crisis.
