Anglophone Crisis: Eu Allocates CFA 1.7Billion For Humanitarian Needs In Cameroon

The announcement was made known by UNICEF on July 24 ,2024 .

The European Union has allocated CFA 1.7billion to support children's affected by the Anglophone crisis in the regions of North-West and South-West ,The fund allocated to UNICEF will be used to provide education and learning opportunities for childrens in the conflict zones.According to UNICEF, an estimation of 488,000 childrens are out of schools and lack proper education due to the ingoing crisis ,with more than 400,000 childrens deprived from the right to education since 2017 with atleast 15cases of voilent cases targetting schools reported in the two regions with approximatly 41% schools closes. UNICEF reports that " in times of crisis, education is a life buoy for the population especially for children , reasons why we help childrens to develop competences to confront the trauma of the crisis". UNICEF in Cameroon focuses on helping children to have access and stay in school, they provide a safe, comfortable learning environment, provide water access, sanitation and hygiene,they protect the child rights by helping children to obtain birth certificate and ensure their civil rights and future education prospects.This fund by EU ,will permit actors of UNICEF to rapidly scale up the response to humanitarian needs and improve access to learning opportunities for out-of-school children aimed at reducing the numbers of uneducated children in those localities .
