The government objectives are twofold:To increase domestic timber processing capacity and enhance the global market value of Gabonese timber. The Gabonese government plans to produce 1,4 million tonnes of processed timber in 2025 up from 1.3 million tonnes currently, representing a 7,6% increase. Wood industry in Gabon generates around 20,000 direct jobs and 14000 indirect jobs and accounts for 60% of non-oil exports, according to the Gabonese government. In addition , Gabon ranks among the top 5 African countries producing plywood and wood planks.Despite an extensive forested area , the timber sector's performance continues to decline. In 2023 , industrial wood output dropped by 7.2% to 1,3 million m³ .This decline, according to the Gabonese Minister of Economy and Participation is mainly due to difficulties in supplying processing units, logistical challenges that disrupted the supply chain of logs from production sites to transformation units , resulting in a direct impact on exportation . It's worth noting that, Greenply has been active in Gabon's forestry industry for over a decade.
