Economic Partnership Agreement : Cameroon has embarked on a new wave of tariff reductions

Early August 2025,the Cameroonian and the European Union launched the 10th phase of tariff dismantling under the Economic Partnership Agreement . This phase concerns 2,233 products that will benefit from a 60% reduction in customs duties and taxes

The affected categories include high fiscal revenue products such as vehicles and transportation, tourism and transport vehicles, tractors agricultural and other types

,fuel and energy,reduced tariffs for two-wheelers, lower duties on petroleum products,reduced tariffs for building supplies.lower duties on electronic goods,tableware utensils, and other household items and certain cereals : Sorghum, wheat, barley.The products in the first group, which began dismantling on August 4, 2016, with a 25% annual reduction, have been completely exempt from customs duties since August 3, 2019. This category includes pharmaceuticals,fertilizers ,gas and pesticides. Similarly, products in the second group (wheelbarrows, goods transport vehicles which started being dismantled in 2017, reached a 100% reduction on August 3, 2023. For the third category, the reduction will increase to 10% per year until 2029.Cameroon and the EU have launched another phase of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which has been in effect since August 4, 2016. However, the country's tax losses have worsened, growing from 700 million FCFA to 95.7 billion FCFA in 2024.The European Union defends the EPA by highlighting that it has enabled Cameroon to achieve a trade surplus with Europe. This surplus could be even greater if Cameroon puts in place sufficient conditions to improve the business environment, with the aim of attracting more European investments to create a solid industrial base. This is why the EU has proposed to Cameroon to negotiate a Sustainable Investment Facilitation Agreement
