Cameroon's Palm Oil : Foresees Drop In Production In Q3 2024.

According to this document based on survey conducted among business leaders, administrative managers and other key stakeholders from various sectors and industries of Cemac this drop in production level is attributed to the oilpalm production cycle not conducive to optimal harvesting during this period.With this drop in production,Cameroon will be forced to spend huge amounts of money on the importation of palm oil with the objectives to guarantee and respond to the demand in homes and supply units of refinery due to the fact The local production of palm oil is becoming more and more insufficient to respond to the large demand of homes and the numerous units of oil refinery . In 2022 the structural production deficit met up at 160000tons during the year forcing Cameroon to rely on massive Importation of the inputs. Eventhou the fact that Cameroon import palm oil , Cameroon is also a country exporter of the red gold , according to data from the National institute of statistics on external trade, it has revealed that Cameroon has exported 1687,5tons of palm oil for an amount estimated at CFA 2billion. According to actors in the sector,the structural deficit is calculated on the bases of a functioning at 50% of transformation capacity units estimated at 160000tons per year , the actual déficit is more important in the sense that it is more than 500,000 tons that is needed every year to the extent that national demand is estimated at morethan 1000000tons for local production fluctuating between 400 and 500 000 tons.
