Following the President's directives , the Minister of Transport Ernest Ngalle Bibéhè announces that surveillance and repression campaigns against traffic offenses will be intensified with special emphasis on the transportation sector in response to the rising number of deadly accidents involving commercial vehicles. A disturbing trend of increasing fatal accidents involving intercity goods transportation vehicles has been noted on our roads.To address this issue , the Minister of Transport has ordered the implementation of the following specific measures : The implementation of a centralized monitoring and control system for long-distance transportation of goods including hazardous materials ,in all relevant vehicles by December 31,2024 .the implementation of a regular monitoring system for drivers, ensuring adequate rest of altleast 8hours , defensive driving training and medical checks to verify fitness to drive ,under the supervision of the ministerial department in charge .This initiative by the Ministry of Transport aims to reduce fatal accidents on our roads and preserve the lives of Cameroonian citizens .Road accidents remains a major concern in Cameroon causing over 1000 deaths and injuries each yea, according to statistics from the Ministry of Transport.
