A new breed of entrepreneurs is rising, fueled by the twin drivers of environmental sustainability and economic growth.These innovators are transforming the value chain of what is often seen as mere trash, showing that with imagination and cleverness even the most discarded items can become the building blocks of a prosperous company and society.In collaboration with local waste collectors, they have created a sustainable supply chain .While many view these discarded items as mere pollutants , young Cameroonians have discovered a lucrative business opportunity in up cycling them into useful daily products .Young Cameroonians comb and streets together plastic waste , which is then cleaned and supplied to businesses.The recycling industry is booming in Cameroon with numerous entrepreneurs developing ingenious processes . According to a report by the ministry of Environment, Nature protection and sustainable development, Cameroon generates 6 million tons of waste annually of which 10% are plastic waste , equivalent to 600,000tons .This sector has become a true niche of opportunities for entrepreneurs .The recycling sector currently employs 5% of the population, particularly young people,who have choosen to venture into this field rather than turning to prostution , vandalism and other illicit activities allowing them to earn their daily bread.
