The mining deal worth at least $2billion with an initial 20yrs agreement, will permit Camalco to work on the Beatrice, Raymonde and Danielle Plateaux in the North to mine 99.1million metric tons of proven reserves of bauxite with 51.6% alumina and 2.4% silica ,given access to Camalco to carry out direct shipping ore project at the Minim- Martap mine covering an area of nearly 500square km ,the high -grade low contaminated bauxite deposit suitable for industrial production at a rate of around 5million tons of bauxite ore annually. The mining code spitulate that 15% of the raw materials extracted must be supplied to the local market and the Cameroonian government will own 10% of all bauxite extracted and a state concession fees and advalorem tax while the mining company will pay royalties to local communities. As detailed in the Bankable feasibility study published on June 21,2022 , the completion of the mining convention enables Canyon Resources to advance its development plans for Minim -Martap.The partnership between Canyon and the Cameroons government enable Camalco to process bauxite into aluminium and transport it via an existing railway line through the cities of Ngaoundere, yde -Douala to the port of Douala or the ore terminal at the port of Kribi for exports hence permitting the construction of other mining facilities to be used during the actual mining operation as well as road infrastructure and rehabilitation of existing railway network generating atleast 1000directs and significantly contributing to the National economy. As Cameroon seeks to become an upper middle income country by 2035 ,this mile stone marks a significant and bright future for Cameroon.
