The Group (AGL) will deploy its activities through its subsidiary Congo terminal, the sector's sole transporter via the upcoming mole terminal expected to launch in 2027.It will be built on 24 hectares of land , feature 750-meter quay with a depth of 17 meters and 16 electric port cranes. The Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire and the Congo-Terminal have partnered on this project to enhance the container terminal's nautical and operational capabilities, catering to the growing demands of port users and shipping lines which will be able to dock larger ships. It's worth noting that in the first quarter of this year, Congo terminal transit volume reached 132506 tonnes of outgoing goods from Congo , a decrease from 211470 tonnes recorded in the same period in 2023. However, it recorded an increase in the volume of goods discharged at its various quays during the same period that is 131197 tonnes representing a 14,3% growth compared to 2023.Additionally ,ship traffic also increased, with vessels berthed between January and march 2024. The structure also plans to launch a dredging campaign soon , which involves extracting materials from the seafloor to develop the port basins. This project falls under AGL's investment program, launched in 2009 ,to boost the container terminal's efficiency which was concessioned to the transportation group for a 27-year period. Thanks to its improvements, Congo terminal aims to accommodate larger vessels with greater capacity and increase its annual container handling capacity to 2,3 million twenty -foot equivalent units up from just over 1 million twenty -foot equivalent units handled in 2023.
