Land Freight: Cameroon's Cost Surge In 2023 Undermines National Corridor Competitiveness.

This rise is largely attributed to the hike in Fuel Prices at retail outlets nationwide, starting February 2023.

According to the 2023 report on the state of Competitiveness of the Cameroonian economy published by the competitiveness committee of the Ministry of Economy, land freight costs experienced a price increase ranging from 8 to 9% in the country during 2023. According to the report , the increase in fuel prices at the pump is the main reason behind this price surge. Based on reports from the competitiveness committee, Fuel represent over 37% of land transportation costs for goods , followed by maintenance costs at 18.9% , which are contingent on road quality. The Ministry of Economy's competitiveness reports that,the 2023 surge in land transportation costs has undermined the competitiveness of Cameroon's trade corridors.Increasing land freight costs will hike businesses' procurement and production expenses.
