On October 2,2024 , the Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, officially launched the construction of phase 2 of the Yaounde -Douala highway.An ambitious 141.1 km project connecting Bibodi to Douala.With an investment project of 880 billion cfa francs , the Yaounde-Douala highway projects aims to improve exchanges between the two largest cities and boost regional and national economies.The highway equally plays a vital role in Cameroon's 2030 National Development Strategy.The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Chinese company, China First Highway Engineering,choosen by the presidency of the republic for a period of 3 years, . According to the project's technical specifications , this phase includes 6 bridges ,6 interchanges ,a toll station and a 34,5 kilometer ,that will link road connecting this section of the highway to the existing road networks . This project will be carried out under a unit price contract, where the company's renumeration is tied to the specific works completed . The project is divided into 5 stretches, according to the Ministry of Public Works: Bibodi -Bodmon (39,5km) , Bodmon -Edea East ( 34km) , Edea East -Edea west (30km) , Edea West -Pitti (18km), Pitti-Massoumbou (19,5km).The completion of the highway's first phase , which commenced in October 2014 , took over 8 years and totalled approximately 350 billion cfa francs, deviating from the imitial contract price of 284 billion Cfa francs .
