Human Capital : The World Bank Injects $225 Million into the Ivorian Healthcare System

Dernière mise à jours il y'a 18 heures

The Ivorian State is consolidating its social infrastructure with the support of its multilateral partners. A significant financial envelope was validated on April 30, 2026, to strengthen nutrition services and early childhood support. This second phase of a large-scale program primarily targets vulnerable households and women, with the ambition of transforming access to basic care. This initiative aligns directly with the National Health Development Plan (PNDS) 2026–2030, aiming to build a resilient system in the face of demographic and climatic shocks.

One of the major innovations of this program lies in the integration of a national digital health platform. This technological framework aims to streamline patient management and optimize the availability of essential medical supplies. For Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira, the institution's Director of Operations for the region, this transformation is fundamental to laying the foundations of a prosperous economy. The mastery of information flows through these digital tools fosters better responsiveness of emergency services and more transparent management of Universal Health Coverage (CMU).

This investment presents itself as an engine for economic growth. Forecasts indicate the creation of nearly 385,000 positions, including 17,000 direct roles for healthcare professionals and digital systems operators. Indirect jobs, estimated at 368,000, will result from the improvement in the overall productivity of Ivorian workers, particularly in the informal and agricultural sectors. The efficiency of this preserved human capital here becomes the guarantor of Côte d'Ivoire's future growth.

Progress recorded in recent years, notably the decline in the maternal mortality rate, encourages the continuation of reforms. By 2028, more than one million new enrollees in the CMU are expected to benefit from these modernized infrastructures. Every brick laid in the construction of equipped health centers strengthens the resilience of the Ivorian social fabric. Every investment made in the training of medical personnel consolidates the solidity of the national economy toward inclusive and sustainable emergence.
