HEALTH:The Gov'ts New Strategic Plans To Fight Drug Use In Cameroon.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, Centers for care , support and Prevention in addiction has recorded a 2,057 patients in 2023 with 1,125 being new cases aged 19-32 age group most affected.This report highlights worrying trends with smoked tobacco showing the highest annual prevalence at 72%,followed by cannabis,alcoholic substances and tramadol . According to health experts,these substances pose significant health risk : Personality disorder, dependency,as well as self destructive behaviours especially to urban youths considered to be the most vulnerable to this substances.The head of state in his traditional address to the youths on February 2020 faced with a growing rate of drug consumption in youth milieu reiterates the emergency to adopt a national plan to combat drug and alcohol consumption in our society.In response to this growing public health concern,the Ministry of public Health has adopted new stragic plans aimed at significantly reduce the level of drug consumption in 2030.Plan focuses on four key areas : Reduce drug supply ,drug demand,reduce the consequences related to drug abuse and the revamping institutional responses to this alarming phenomenon.The total budget allocated for the 2024 period is estimated at Cfa 27865349529M ,more details: cfa 5687064000m allocated for the fight against reduction of drug demands,cfa 7992179031 reserved to combat drug supply in our society , cfa 4264925000M is allocated for the fight against the consequencies related to drug consumption and cfa 9921181498 M is attributed to the strategic methods to be use by institutions in charge of responding to the fight against drugs in Cameroon.The government project the 2025 bill at Cfa 33122788724M and that of 2026 at Cfa 31248817501M respectively amounting to put an end to this growing public health concern in Cameroon. During the press briefing held yesterday in Yaounde,the Minister Manaouda Malachie calls on a collective implications of all : The government,Public and Private institution and Parents to contributes positively to palliate to this growing phenomenon in our society.
