Excessive Alcohol Abuse : Kills Morethan 70,000 Cameroonian Yearly.

This alarming phenomenon was made known in yaounde August 21,2024 at the launch of an awareness Campaign by the Cameroon Consumer Coalition with the aim of reducing the harmful and destructive effects of excessive consumption of alcohol by Cameroonians.

The aimed of this awareness campaign that runs from August 21 to September 30 ,2024   is to educate and warn the public about the risk of abusive alcohol consumption especially in the youths milieux . According to the president of the Cameroon's consumer coalition, alcohol consumption is more elevated in youth milieu especially Cameroonian University students which stand at 87.93% ( 39.4% girls and 60.96 boys ) According to a survey released by the World Health Organisation, which calculates the number of litres of pure alcohol consumed per capita over the age of 15  , Cameroon ranks 12 out 49 African countries .In 2016 Cameroonian consumed over 660 million liters of beer and others alcoholic drink ( bottle whisky, sachets whisky )increasing year by year.According to Cameron's expert in 2019 some key facts on alcohol abuse shows that an estimated of 1million people aged 15 years and older lives with alcohol use disorders which at the long-term damages the health, increase of level of promiscuity among youths , and causes human death .with these increaing phenomenon ,the Cameroonian government has put inplace a transition plans to fight against the abusive consumption of alcohol, put in place effective control units to examine the level of consumption especially in.youth milieu . Going out of Cameroon, according to the Journal of internal medicine and emergency research , world wide 2.3 billion people drink alcohol of these 237 million men and 46 million women suffer from disorder (eating, behaviour.) and in 2016 morethan 3million people died worldwide. To respond to this , in 2018 the world health organisation and partners have launched the project " the safer initiative" to support countries implement and redouble the fight against the harm caused by alcohol consumption.More over the Global Alcohol Action plan 2022-2030 endorsed by the World Health Organisation member states will accelerate global progress towards attaining alcohol related target under the sustainable development goal 3.5 .
