Economy: Studies Are Underway For The Rehabilitation Of The Garoua River Port.

A delegation of the Cameroon National Shipper Council (CNCC) led by its general director M August Mbappe Penda , are taking part since August 19 ,2024 at a series of work organised in the town of Garoua presided by the Governor of the North Region Jeans Abate Edi'i with the aim of re-establishing activities at the Port of Garoua.

The Works that goes from August 19 to 23 ,2024 aimed at launching the operation of the Garoua River Port and the navigability of the lagdo and maga lakes .The Autonomous port of Douala has been mandated by the government to put in practice it's experiencing to re-establish , modernize and resume harbour economy in the northern part of the country. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Territorial planification, this work will open doors to the Garoua River Port to become a driver of economic growth in Cameroon in particular and  in CEMAC Zones.The Garoua port is intended to link up the 3 regions of the northern part of the country: The far north, the north and Adamawa.This important project in gestation for many months today will contribute to the economic development of the northern part of the country with the creation of more than 500 jobs , the project aims at facilitating the transportation of goods from cameroon to neighbouring countries like Nigeria, Central African Republic, Chad hence improving regional integration within the Cemac. To remind that , the port of Garoua was constructed to easy the exportation of cotton and groundnut from Cameroon to Nigeria and facilitate the Importation of petrol in Cameroon.The rehabilitation project of the Garoua port will therefore boost Cameroons exportation activities in Africa and at the international market with more than 200 consumers . The financial aspects for the rehabilitation project is also accelerating given that Minepat has launched series of different advocacies in the research of national and international investors. The rehabilitation project of the Port of Garoua which is estimated at CFA 16 Billion adds to the active ports of kirbi ,limbe and Douala  with the same objective of enhancing economic development in Cameroon.
