Attractiveness : Cameroon Targets 3.5 Million International Tourists Annually

Dernière mise à jours il y'a 2 heures

The travel industry in Cameroon is embarking on a decisive turning point driven by a new performance strategy. During the launch of the 2026 fiscal year budget, the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure (MINTOUL) reaffirmed its ambition to cross the threshold of 3.5 million foreign visitors each year. This symbolic milestone is no longer a mere projection but the pivot of rigorous budgetary planning aimed at transforming the country's natural and cultural potential into a structural lever for economic growth.

To support this escalation, the administration has undergone a profound mutation in its financial governance. The major innovation lies in the accreditation of sub-directors, now placed at the heart of procedural validation. This measure aims to streamline the commitment of expenditures and ensure that every franc invested contributes directly to the improvement of the tourism offering. Gabriel Mbairobe has indeed demanded that project implementation be systematically justified by result indicators, thus breaking with traditional management schemes in favor of a performance-based culture.

The achievement of these attendance goals will depend on the speed with which infrastructure and services are deployed. The schedule imposed on sector actors prescribes the early commitment of services to avoid the chronic delays that hinder the destination's competitiveness. By aligning financial resources with strict temporal planning, the government intends to reassure private partners and optimize Cameroon's visibility in global source markets.

The success of this attractiveness policy rests on the ability of the newly accredited executives to transform budgetary directives into visible projects. By adopting a more agile administrative architecture, the country hopes not only to capture a larger share of the African tourist flow but also to durably anchor the sector within national development priorities.
