Agriculture: Cameroon launches Cfa 305.7Billion Plant To Boost National Milk production By 2035.
Dernière mise à jours il y'a 5 moisA development plan to increase national milk production by 2035 was approved on June 18,2024 by the Minister of livestock, Fisheries and Animal industries Dr TAIGA,estimated at cfa 305.7billion aims at increasing Cameroon's milk production at 1,146,600 tons by 2035.

This strategic plan, overall objective is to reduce the dependency of Cameroon on milk importation which according to the National institute of statistics on foreign commerce , Cameroon has imported 20,5961 tons of milk derivatives for an amount of Cfa 40,6billion while 17,2179 tons of powered milk were imported for Cfa 35 billion by industries in Cameroon.With this development plan ,the government aims at reducing the need for costly imports of dairy products which currently amount to nearly cfa 20 billion year-on-year.In 2022 , Cameroon's milk production was at 173,000tons According to the ministry of livestock however national supply of dairy products was estimated at 155,570 tons per year as reported by the national confederation of cattle breeders of Cameroon,an amount estimated below tge 300,000 tons demand which resulted to an approximate 12,000tons . In search for solution to palliate to this deficit in milk supply , Cameroon has acquired 495dairy cows from France between 2020 and 2023 funded by the World Bank for an amount of Cfa 78 4billion as part of its livestock development project.In 2021 , Cameroon was ranked 113th globally in terms of milk production and aims at enhancing its stamding in the coming years.The Cfa 305.7 development plan to boost national milk production carries on six programmes: Cfa 111.5billion allocated to genetics, Cfa 72.7billion for feeding, cfa 14.6billion for milk processing, housing, health ,welfare cfa 92.3billion ,research - development cfa 5 billion and governance cfa9.6 billion.This development plan to boost national milk production in Cameroon enters inline with the import -substitution policy,that entails to encourage local production and boost production and consumption of Made in Cameroon.
