The World Trade Organisation celebrates its 30th anniversary, the organisation encourages greater investment to enhance more inclusive trade, amidst geopolitical challenges and the threat of economic fragmentation. The reports highlight the role of trade in facilitating market admission and upgrading investment, leading to significant improvement in the lives of millions of population worldwide. The Report revealed that, between 1995 and 2022 , the poverty rate in low and middle -income economies dropped from 40.3% to 10.6%, while trade's share of their Gross Domestic Products increase from 16% to 32% .This surge , created new opportunities, even though the relationship between trade and poverty as well as inequality remains complex . Despite the achievement, the World Trade Organisation acknowledge the fact that,many economies and populations are still left behind and urges for greater inclusion of these groups in the world trade .This report comes at a time when global trade faces mounting tensions particularly with increase in protectionism in major economies : The recent tariffs imposed by the United States, The European union on chinese electric vehicles accused of dumping . Such policies can lead to limiting economic opportunities. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, in 2023 , global trade reduced by 3% , a drop of approximately $1trillion following a record of $32 trillion in 2022. This decline is attributed to geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. To respond to these challenges the World Trade Organisation is calling for more inclusive trade globally.
