The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga has strongly demanded the immediate refund of excess tuition fees and parent -Teacher association fees (PTA) unlawfully collected by certain secondary school administrators since the start of the current academic year .The government official reminded during the meeting that , Parent -Teacher association fees must not surpass 25,000 Cfa Francs. The following tuition fee limits apply: General Education 7,500 francs (first cycle) and 10,000 francs (second cycle), Technical Education 10,000 francs (both first and second cycles ). Payment of these fees must be made electronically through the student's Unique Identification Card. For several years, Parent -Teacher association fees have been a point of dispute at the beginning of each academic year.The fees ,which vary from 12,500 to 30,000 francs depending on the school's need , have sparked frustration among parents who question the transparency and accountability in the handling of these funds. According to Parent -Teacher officials , these fees are used to cover various expenses including: paying salaries of part-time teachers, financing construction projects for new classrooms, acquiring desks and benches and purchasing computer equipment .This initiative by the Minister of Secondary Education aims to reduce corruption and fraudulent activities in secondary institutions and the Education sector,which were severely affected by corruption in 2023 , according to conac .
