North Region: Onion Producers Receive Over CFA 11 Million In Support

The financing granted by the National Employment Fund seeks to enhance food security in the locality.

On October 31,2024 , the National Employment Fund installed subsidized agricultural promoters for onion cultivation in the North region precisely in Pitoa.These promoters  recieved financing of Cfa 11 million as part of the rural employment development support programme in Pitoa named " Pader onion 2024 Pitoa".Pader is a comprehensive programme combining training and financial support for self-employment,focused on promoting employment and reducing poverty in rural communities. This financing enables the National Employment Fund to support the expansion of onion production capabilities in the Northern region with a focus on Pitoa. Pitoa stands out as a leading production hub in the Northern region, serving as a key international supplier to neighbouring countries. This financing of More than Cfa 11 million is granted to local promoters and producers in the Pitoa commune at a preferential interest rate of 6% with repayment terms of 24 months and a 6-month grace period. This financing will undoubtedly enable the diversification and secure a steady onion supply, a highly demanded vegetable,thus strengthening food security.In addition, it will boost the local economy through job creation and income generation for farmers, traders and communities in the region and beyond.
