Internet: Sub-saharan Africa's Internet Gap Narrows From 46% To 13 % From 2015-2023.

As per the Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), Sub-saharan Africa's Internet coverage deficit declined from 46% in 20215 to 13% in 2023.

The report titled as the State of Mobile Internet Connectivity 2024 ,relies on a series of data sets to examine the main trend in the telecom industry. The document highlights the internet coverage deficits in various Sub-regions across the Continent: West Africa 12% , East Africa 9% , Central Africa 34%. Internet access is vital for driving the digital transformation ongoing across Africa, enabling unprecedented connectivity to critical services like: Education, Health care and Trade .According to the International Telecommunication Union and the International Monetary Fund, an investment of more than $ 400 billion is required to achieved universal connectivity by 20230. The report notes that , investing is becoming increasingly difficult due to the escalating costs and inflation, which stood at 8,5% in 2022 and 6,2% in 2023. Whereas, mobile revenue growth averaged only 2% per annum over the last three years.
