Far North Region: Collaborative Initiative To Establish Digital Kiosks At Minawao Refugee Settlement.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Jesuit Refugees Services and IHS Cameroon signed on October 23, 2024 in Yaounde, a memorandum of understanding to install digital kiosks in the Minawao Refugee Camp in the Far North of the country.These digital kiosks equipped with computers, printers and internet connectivity will offer multimedia facilities. According to the memorandum of understanding,IHS Cameroon, the telecom tower operator in the country with 2300 tower , is providing technical expertise for this project .They will supply and maintain the digital kiosks for 6 months . The Refugee Jesuits Service will oversee the management of these infrastructure facilities to ensure that refugees in the camp and local population benefit without discrimination.Meanwhile UNHCR Will be responsible for the overall camp management to prevent any equipment degradation.In September 2023 , Minawao Refugee Settlement welcomed around 6000 new refugees,many of these refugees have fled voilence from Boko Haram attacks and neighboring Nigeria ,pushing the total population to over 7500 ,according to report from humanitarian organizations . According to statistics, over 10% of these refugees are children, young men and women who were forced to drop out of school or never attended school. Overall, these equipment will help refugees learn, acquire knowledge and access information via the internet.
