The report titled "Driving Structural Transformation in Cameroon for Global Financial Architecture Reform " noted that the share of agriculture sector jobs in total employment in Cameroon has dropped to just 54% in 2018 down from 75% in the 90s, representing a 21% decrease .The proportion of agricultural employment has declined with a corresponding increase in employment in the tertiary services sector. Conversely, the proportion of employment in the whole sale and retail trade sector relative to total employment has grown, jumping from 7% to more than 17% . Simultaneously, large-scale hiring in the public sector has enabled public sector employment to surge to over 6% in 2018 up from a mere 1,8% in the 1990s. The report indicates that, the manufacturing sector has slightly increased from 6,5% in 1980 to 8,9% in 2018. However the secondary sector has been the least dynamic sector in terms of job creation in Cameroon over this period. The African Development Bank notes that ,the current employment distribution across various sectors of activity does not indicate a robust industrial development or the desired structural transformation.
